Embedded in this methodology is the core formulation component that we will concentrate on a little later. The modelling methodology of concern is shown in Figure 4.1. We will first of all provide an overview of this iterative methodology. Initially there is some organisational problem situation that focuses the attention of those involved in decision making, and leads to their purposeful activity. It is essential at the outset to carry out task formulation, which helps us to consider what might be an appropriate way forward. Within the logic and process of TSI this has already been catered for and so, now assuming SD is the most relevant approach, we need to set about identifying modelling purposes. These determine in unitary fashion the essential characteristics of the model to be formulated. A potentially worthwhile investigation at this stage is to undertake a
