Utilit y SSM is best suited to situations where there is a coalition of organisational stakeholders and the need is to create, temporarily at least, a shared appreciation among these stakeholders of what is the best way forward from a given problem situation. It is extremely adept at providing creative solutions that enable organisational actors to escape the "traps" into which their current thinking has led them.
