I have backpacked all over the U.S.A and parts of Europe which has given me a great appreciation and interest in backpacking and the great outdoors While backpacking this summer in West Virginia, I met students from West Virginia University backpacking in Dolly Sods Wilderness

Winthrop has a backpacking class but not a club which would increase their interest, skills, and techniques develop in class Winthrop students do not get to experience or enjoy the true “great outdoors” that our country is known for Winthrop students are stuck on campus or go home for the weekends and never get to experience the unique towns, people, and culture that the North and South Carolina mountains have to offer Winthrop students to not known why we need to protect our country’s wilderness because they have never get to seen it first hand
