LEAD CONTAMINATION 2 Lead contamination in Georgia The policy health issue The policy health issue is lead contamination in Georgia. The population that is at high risk is pregnant women, infants and small children. It is an issue that has affected the local district of Georgia as recorded in most of the healthcare facilities. There is evidence of the issue since the research that has been done using the district’s resources show that most people with lead contamination are children. Lead is found in paint, soil and water basically. There are so many things that cause lead contamination but in Georgia, it is more of waste disposal which is an environmental issue. When companies are using lead products, they dump them anywhere. This contamination is dangerous because it can either be blown away by wind as dust or be dispensed by the air. When people breathe this especially children and pregnant women, it goes and tampers with their immune system. Lead contamination so far has caused the death of so many children because their bodies are not well developed and their immune system is normally not as stable. It is very difficult to distinguish between which water is contaminated and which one is not which is causing a lot of agony for the people in that area (Henson, 2018). They are still hoping that this issue is going to be sorted out because with people continuing to be sick and mothers admitting their children day and night, Georgia has proven to not be safe for raising children or even for women who are expectant.
