PT 418 Lab Objectives: Wound Care Labs Lab #1: Sterile technique, Wound Evaluation, Wound Care products (dressings, cleansing agents, etc.) 1. Demonstrate correct hand washing techniques. 2. Demonstrate correct technique for donning and removing sterile gloves. Simulate a sterile field with a “sterile towel” , several pieces of gauze, and some sterile equipment. 3. Articulate the appropriate reasons/conditions for use of sterile technique. When do you use a gown, mask and goggles? 4. Demonstrate and describe three different ways of measuring and grading a wound. What wound assessment tools do you have available? 5. When looking at pictures of wounds be able to describe the type of wound, whether it is moist(heavy dessicating or exudating) or dry, necrotic/containing fibrin slough or healthy, and what the wound bed/margin looks like. How do you know if the wound bed/margin is healthy or has unhealthy characteristics? (tunneling, undermining) 6. Be able to discuss and determine whether an ulcer is of venous or arterial origin.
