DePAUL UNIVERSITY HAA 130: PRINCIPLES OF EUROPEAN ART Instructor: Dr. Joseph Socki – [email protected] Section: 701 – Term: Fall 2010 COURSE DESCRIPTION, OBJECTIVES and EXPECTATIONS Description : This course is a general introduction to Western art from pre-history to the 20th century. Through readings, lectures and written assignments, students will be able to recognize, understand and appreciate significant works and ideas associated with the history of Western art. Students are expected to attend ALL lectures; significant absences may result in a lowering of your final grade. Grading : Exams are each worth ¼ of your grade. Exams MUST be taken on the assigned dates unless ADVANCED arrangements have been made. Missing an exam is grounds for failure. A final research paper is worth ¼ of your grade, due at the end of the quarter; additional information will be made available on this assignment later in the quarter. Readings : Students should prepare for lectures by reading chapters from Kleiner, Fred S. Gardner’s Art Through the Ages: A Concise
