One compartment contains O 2 at 300 K and 100 kPa, and the other compartment contains N 2 at 350 K and 200 kPa. Now the partition is removed, and the two gases are allowed to mix. The heat gain from the surrounding air at 400 K during this process is 50 kJ. Determine (a) final mixture temperature, in K, (b) final mixture pressure, in Pa, and (c) total entropy production, in kJ/K. (c v, o2 = 0.658 kJ/kgK, c v, N2 = 0.743 kJ/kgK) Answers: (a) 377K, (b) 170 Pa, (c) 0.056 kJ/K. SP13 A gas mixture stream of 2 kmol/s consists of O 2 and N 2 . The ratio of the numbers of O 2 :N 2 = 3:1. The mixture is heated during a steady-flow process from 300 to 400 K at a constant pressure of 1 bar and from a heat source of 1000 K. Determine (a) the heat transfer rate during this process, (b) the total entropy production rate during this process, and (c) the exergy destruction rate associated with the process.
