Jason Lim September 14, 2010 Approaching the Arts-02 Aesthetics of My Generation The goal of the 21 st century's visual culture is to try to engrave their work into our memory for as long as they possibly can. From the music industry, there are two types of artists that captivate their audience: those who lack substance but make up for it by their catchy-ness, and those who do have substance and have an audience that can relate to them. I like Lady Gaga not because her lyrics mean something to me, but rather because her song make for wonderful songs to dance to. Drake is pleasing to me because his lyrics reflect what I want to be (the fact that he sounds good singing or rapping is a plus as well). It's rare to be drawn in by an entire album, but Drake has done that with me. From the fashion industry, various designers cater towards certain demographics like business people, scene people, and the skaters. Designers like Ralph Lauren, Hot Topic, and PacSun want to be the iconic symbol within their respective demographic. People have become conscious about the brands
