Dustin Paluch Professor Ringer (Essay Four Draft Three) WRI 102-25 18 April 2010 Essay four draft three Box office movies are one of the largest ways to spread a message to the entire world. A total of 134,650,324 tickets were bought for Schindler’s List , Life is Beautiful , and Defiance (Boxofficemojo). This number was reached by dividing the box office gross of each film and dividing it by the average ticket price worldwide for that particular year. To put the large impact films have in society into prospective, for President Obama’s Inauguration, worldwide only 68.3 million people watched the Inauguration on television, live internet and in person (Newsmax); that’s a little over half of the people who watched the three films. Schindler’s List , Life is Beautiful , and Defiance each convey the same message to the audience: one person has the ability to create a ripple effect of positive change in the world by their sole actions. By each film catering to a large audience, both people who believe and disbelieve in the Holocaust, the three films create buzz and draw attention to the issue of the people who took a stand in World War II.
