Class Participation Your discussion section is an important part of your learning in ugba-10. It’s not a casual conversation: Your GSI has a teaching plan for the day, and will carefully guide the conversation to promote your learning. Here’s how to succeed and earn the full Class Participation Grade. Be Present, Be Prepared and Participate If you skip section, you won’t get as much as possible out of the course. Just as important, you should be sure to arrive on time. Ugba-10 discussions are not “drop-in” sessions. If you arrive even a few minutes after the beginning of class you may miss a key point in the discussion, and you’ll disrupt the discussion in-progress. Usually the discussion will be based on one or two assigned articles. They won’t take you long to read, but it’s obvious who’s read the material, and who’s “winging it” by trying to read the material in class. As you read, make a few notes about the main point of the articles and be prepared to answer the question: “Who can tell us what’s going on at . . .” In your preparation, note down any terms that you can’t understand or other questions you have about the material. If you limit your participation to just showing up for section your CP score will be very low indeed—you
