At the time that this occurred the American people were already stressed to the max when it came to who you could or could not trust. As much as I agree with the tactic that McCarthy used to “flush” out the people that were communist sympathizers, I think that maybe it could have be done a little more tactfully. We had just began to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and then comes a list of people who we were supposed to trust, only to be told “not with your life:” I believe that for those who truly thought it could not be on their doorstep it was a great wake up call that was needed. I do not believe that it should be looked upon as all bad, with what he achieved. Yes some of the people on his “list” were no longer employed by our government, but they were at one point which means that they had seen sensitive materials that may or may not have had value to the communists. So for this light that he shed upon American citizens, yes for some it was not fair, but sometimes in war there are certain sacrifices that need to be made to save the thousands....
