Jan Thomas MGT 3371 Lucas August 12, 2010 Chapter One I believe that the definition of management means that someone is in charge and is making sure things are getting done correctly. For a business to work and make a profit there has to be someone in a management position to be able to tell other staff members what to do to make things run smoothly and correctly. I believe that leadership and management are different. Management is more about the science of how things are done. It’s about signing here and signing there. It deals more with the effectiveness and efficiency. Leadership is more about motivation and setting the standard for people. Of the four steps in the management process I believe that planning is the most important and effective way to run a business. For a business to move forward you need to know where to start and to do that you must plan from the bottom and plan to the top. In doing this you also detail everything in the middle to know what turns to delegate and what the strategy will be. Without the planning process I believe you
