Jan Thomas MGT 3371 Lucas September 1, 2010 Week 4 Chapter 7 DEVELOPING YOUR CHANGE-MANAGEMENT SKILLS I believe that in a situation like that I would use education and communication to teach the nurses that they all play important roles in the unity of the hospital and patients. The nurses from each department would need to realize that they are all part of a team and that not one floor is better than the other. Having multiple nurses that can do float to any department is a wonderful idea. This does require that they have the knowledge that each floor requires. Some of the external forces at work influencing the need for change are technology, government laws and regulations, labor markets, and the economy. Some if the internal forces at work influencing the need for change are strategies, the employee attitudes, and composition of the organizations workforce. The metaphor “calm waters” refers to the three step change process. This means to unfreeze the current situation, then changing it, and finally making the new change permanent. The metaphor “white water rapids” refers to managing the constant changes that take place on a
