Instruction Module MGT3373 – Week1 (Heizer 10e) Instructor Comments/Notes: This course represents a broad exposure to fundamental concepts in understanding, organizing, managing and controlling a business organization. Its principles apply to organizations large and small, manufacturing- or service-oriented, public or private. The course content includes broad theories and specific numerical techniques. We will emphasize developing a sound understanding of the concepts and principles. Please read the brief descriptions of the specific numerical measures and techniques to develop an appreciation of their intent and application. These descriptions are presented as Supplements A-F in the textbook and on your Student CD. You will not be tested specifically on these materials. Some of these subjects are covered other courses (QM2241- Business Statistics, QM3342 – Introduction to Operations Research.) More advanced and subject-specific courses will cover many of the other topics more thoroughly. The publisher also provides many interesting resources including; Textbook Supplements, Power Point Slides, Video Clips and a variety of decision support software. I highly recommend that you take full advantage of these resources. Some of these materials are provided in my course sections, others are available on the Student CD (if applicable), and others are available online via the Companion Website for the textbook. All chapters have margin items which include short definitions of the key terms in the reading material. In this Instruction Module (and every one to follow) I will ‘recommend’ several textbook discussion questions, even-number exercises, and Case studies for you to attempt/study. Although I will ultimately provide the solutions/answers, I urge you to work them on your own before reading the solution/answer as a pre-test of your comprehension. I will also give you the solutions to additional problems in the Course Material section of my Blackboard page. The purpose, of course, is to enhance your process of self-study. This mimics what is normally done in a classroom presentation: review of the material and working example problems. PLEASE NOTE: the Self-Test discussion questions, even-numbered exercises, additional problems and Case studies are for your own study and are NOT to be turned in to the instructor. Unless otherwise stated, the ONLY parts of the assignments which are to be submitted each week are the quiz responses. In addition to the specific items posted in the weekly Instruction Modules, I urge all
