Review Lecture 1 Define anthropology -The study of the human species Define cultural relativity - Everyone from different cultures acts different ways, they need to be respected by one's own frame of reference What is science? - Testing hypotheses Evolution What is one main reason taxonomies are revised? - New discoveries are found changing the classification in which animals should be distinguished Define uniformitarianism - Earth Changes gradually, Earth is millions of years old, What happens now has happened through time, Laws of nature are unchanging Define Catostrophism - The earth has changed through a series of catastrophes (Meteor, Noah's Flood) Define evolution - Change through time (nature selects traits that make plants and animals best adapted to their environment, those best adapted must reproduce to carry on their genes.) Define natural selection Where does intelligent design/creation stories fit with evolution? - It doesn’t fit at all
