Brittney Acevedo Professor Valdez To do injustice is said to be good but to suffer injustice is evil but the evil is greater than the good. When men have suffered both and realize that they can not have one without the other they choose to have an agreement to have neither. But if a person could get away with doing something unjust without having to suffer injustice they would. People only do the right thing because they fear being caught doing the wrong thing and getting punished for it. In the story the Ring of Gyges a man is given a ring that makes him invisible whenever he wants and he uses it for injustice. Since the ring makes him invisible he knows that he can do whatever he wants and never get caught. Any person who normally acts just and does the right thing would take advantage of the opportunity and would act on all their desires. When the man realized what

No man would keep his hands off what was not his own when he could safely take what he liked out of the market, or go into houses and lie with any one at his pleasure, or kill or release from prison whom he would, and in all respects be like a God among men. The story shows that people are only just because they are afraid of punishment for injustice and that no one is just because justice is desirable in itself. People prefer to be unjust rather than just they just do not want to face the punishment of getting caught so they do the right thing instead....
