Brittney Acevedo Professor Valdez According to William Golding, people are born evil and are instinctively savages. All people are selfish and desire power. Golding believes the only way to yield order is through force. I believe Golding is wrong with his idea of how people are and what their morals are. I believe that people are born a blank slate and growing up shapes whether we become a good person or a bad person. Our influences, the things we see and even media help us decide what we find right and wrong. We use morality as a set of guide lines. In order to know what we need morality to be though we need to first know how we act without a firm set of rules. If Golding is right about morality, that all other people are born with evil intentions and that we are all savage and selfish, we need morality to be a set of rules and guidelines to help humankind get through life without killing each other. We need these rules and guidelines to help humankind grow as a society. We need morality to make people feel guilty when
