Why Do Parents Object to Uniforms? As more and more schools require students to wear uniforms or restrict what they wear, wearing uniforms has become a big issue. Some parents and students are against wearing uniforms. Those who oppose uniforms think that wearing uniforms limit students’ right to make their own decisions, violates parents’ right to choose how to raise their children and costs a lot. Some students as well as parents believe that requiring uniforms limits the students’ right to make their own decisions. Cyndi Regis of Congress, Ariz., said her son, Mike, liked to wear his “Phoenix Suns T- shirts and jeans” to Congress Elementary School. Mike considered this style to be appropriate for him; he did not wear anything inappropriate to school. Regis said: "He's not out of line with what he wants to wear" (qtd. in Motsinger 2). But Mike was forced to wear a polo shirt and khaki or navy shorts or pants to school because of the uniform policy.
