Hydrolysis of Ethyl Acetate Aims: To measure the rate of saponification of ethyl acetate. To determine the overall order of the reaction from the integrated rate equations. To determine the rate constant for the reaction. To consider possible reaction mechanisms in the light of the experimentally determined rate law. Method/Experimental Procedure (See laboratory notes pg. 10-12 for experimentally procedure) The concentrations, volumes, temperatures, masses and times used for preparation of the reagents used within the experiment. A: Preparation of initial (pre-reaction) solutions Step 1: [CH3COOC2H5] = 0.0400 mol.L-1, volume = 250.00mL Step 2: [NaOH] = 0.0400 mol.L-1, volume =25.00mL Step 3: [CH3COOC2H5] = 0.0400 mol.L-1, volume = 25.00mL in water bath at 25.10 °C, for 10 minutes B: Measurement of C 0 Step 4: [NaOH] = 0.0200mol.L-1 *This was done by adding 50.00 mL of NaOH 0.0400 mol/L into a 100.00 mL volumetric flask and then was diluted to the mark with water D: Measurement of
