THEME Notes The theme of the story is the central idea or insight about life that it reveals. Usually not stated directly Generalization about life or human nature Common to all people everywhere The subject of the story is NOT the same as the theme i.e. love, war, friendship The theme makes a revelation about the subject and is able to be expressed in a sentence. i.e. Love may be more likely to bloom when we least expect it.
