Poetry Explication -Essay Rubric- CATEGORY 4 - Advanced 3 - Proficient 2 - Partially Proficient 1 - Needs Work Organization Your essay: Begins with a clear introduction that includes the title, author, the poem’s theme, and ends with a thesis statement. Identifies 5 or more poetry devices that are used in the poem and discusses each one in a logical order. Each body paragraph includes a clear topic sentence, clear ideas, and a clincher/transition sentence that leads into your next paragraph. Connects all main points to your thesis statement. Introduces each quote (context) and then integrates the quote with your own ideas in a fluent sentence. Ends with a conclusion paragraph ( reworded thesis statement leading into an original insight). Your essay: Begins with an introduction that includes the title, author, the poem’s theme, and ends with a thesis statement.
