Unformatted text preview: Welcome to Journalism 1111: Journalism & Society The syllabus is on BlackBoard. Print it and take it with you everywhere you go. The syllabus is your best friend. It is your guide to the semester. Take it everywhere you go. Leave a copy in your favorite jeans. Put one in your glove compartment. Make mini-versions and carry them in your purse or wallet. Make copies for friends. Hand them out at parties. Bring the syllabus to class on Thursday and we will talk about the details. Please purchase either the 8th or 9th edition. Go for the cheapest version. Want used books from former students? Let me know. Im still waiting to hear from more past students. Read Chapters 1 and 15 for Thursday if you have the 8th edition (chapter 1 in the 9th). What is journalism? Well come back to that. Its a tough question to answer, especially these days. Who are you? Freshman? Sophomore? Junior? Senior? New to Temple? Transfer or visiting from another university? Where are you from? The city of Philadelphia? Actually within the citys boundaries? Jersey? Jersey? Dont be shy. We wont laugh. Jersey? Dont be shy. We wont laugh. Pennsylvania burbs? Not the Philly region? Really? Whyd you come here? International students? You are Society. Look around. Take it all in. Greet your neighbors. Make some friends. Youll be spending plenty of time together over the next few years. So what if we are society? We have shared experiences and common struggles....
