HIST 4205 – Monday September 25, 2006 Election of 1930 Temporary Emergency Relief Administration (TERA) Brain Trust Interregnum 20 th Amendment Joseph Zangera “Fear Itself” Bank Holiday Roosevelt elected Governor of NY Had a definite plan Making a record as a Progressive governor Is getting national attention When elected, prosperity Economy did turn down FDR missed some of the signs New housing He was cautious at first Here comes 1930 Election of 1930 He has to win by larger margin than in 1928 Hoover knew it was an important election Sent 4 members of staff to campaign against FDR is running national issues GOP brought up FDR’s health FDR took exam – pronounced in good shape Insurance companies offered him lots of insurance $$ FDR blamed Hoover with economy FDR running national campaign FDR won in a landslide – 175, 000 votes Everybody understood significance of this election for future Actions as NY Governor FDR came out in favor of direct gov’t action
