FDR leaned more towards Intervention Whatever it took short of going to war Committee to Defend America (by Aiding the Allies) (CDA) Interventionists Formed just after Germany invaded France in 1940 Believed that best way to avoid going to war was to aid the Allies CDA chapters formed all over the country Membership reached a million Want to provide as much assistance to England America First Committee Formed in response to CDA in Sept 1940 Isolationists Should be an impregnable defense Nobody can attack America Did not want to provide aid to England b/c it would weaken America AFC chapters formed as well Membership reached 700-800K Its actions were usually in response to something CDA did Always on defensive Charles Lindbergh was a member
