P2 detects a failure and a coordinator has to be elected, it sends an election message to all the processes with a higher identifier and then waits for an answer message: P3, P4, P5 Replay with an answer message and they start an election procedure themselves to send an election message to all procedures with a higher identifier P3 gets response back from higher identifier procedures P4 and P5 restart the election process. P5 wins the election and send coordinator messages to all Process in the cycle. In the best case: P5 should of noticed that P6 was down and immediately select itself and send n-2 coordinator messages. In the worst case: P2 started the election and sent n-1 election messages to the rest of the process which themselves initiated each one an election of O(n2) messages thus taking more time to get a new coordinator.
