Unformatted text preview: Materials When it comes to the materials that are needed in construction of suspension bridges, there are many parts of the bridge that need to be taken in consideration. The way the materials are used for the construction of suspension bridges is also very unique because suspension bridges are used in such a way that you need to have sturdy materials that can span long gaps but they also have to be relatively lightweight themselves so due to the lack of rigid supports that can be utilized in this type of bridge construction. When talking about the materials used in suspension bridges you first need to examine the different parts of the bridge which consist of the trusses, cable systems, towers, bridge deck and anchorages. The trusses are used to distribute the weight of concentrated loads throughout the entire bridge are they are also there in order to secure aerodynamic stability. The trusses are most often formed out of structural steel but can also be made from silicon or alloy steels.
