There are a few basic steps you need to take before beginning to write an essay. The first step is to come up with an idea of what to write by exploring your topic, researching the key points of the topic, and how to support those points with the facts. Then, you need to formulate a plan for writing the essay by figuring out the purpose of the writing, who will be reading your essay, what you want the readers to learn from your writing, and what about the topic interests you specifically. Once you have figured out your topic then you need to organize the key points, and what you want to get across to the reader and the order you want to communicate your ideas and the facts so it will make sense to the reader. You can do this by creating an outline of the facts, the supporting materials, and your own opinions. An outline is basically a guide for you to use when you write the actual essay.
