The year 1944 has seen the height of World War II, and will hopefully usher the world to a lasting peace. If the United States had not entered the war in Europe, Hitler may have been successful in conquering Britain. The US was capable of entering WWII in a large role because of its successful emergence from the Great Depression. One man is the main reason for the success of the US. For successfully guiding the United States of America out of the Great Depression and positioning the Allies for victory in WWII, we here at Time Magazine have chosen to honor President Franklin D. Roosevelt as Man of the Year 1944. Franklin D. Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest US presidents. He is the only president to hold more than two terms of office, recently being elected to an unprecedented fourth term. Concern exists for President Roosevelt because he has suffered with crutches or a wheel chair for most of his political career after contracting Polio at the age of 39. One of the reasons that the
