China erupts in war. - KMT formed in 1919 on “Three Priciples of the People”, appoints Chiang Kai-Shek as commander of academy. - KMT divide over path of development. Chooses German style, supreses communism. German style concentrates power in elites hands without the social upheavel. KMT modernizing authrotitarin regime while CPP totalitarian party state. o Many hide in China moutrain areas, KMT chases them in the Long March. o China experiences great economic growth between 1928-1936, eneded by Sino-Japenese war. Growth of nationalism, CCP control North China thanks to Soviets. -
