Urbanization Urbanization in poor countries is caused by growth in population, and children growing up and starting their own families. Also looking for work is easier if you are in an area close to the jobs. Mexico City is one of the poorest cities in Mexico, and has had a difficult time trying to rise above poverty with no luck. Because of the poverty level the crime rate is over 90% higher in Mexico City, and life expectancy is not too great either, only living to be in their late 40’s for men and close to 60 for women. Children in schools are out of control, and it is difficult for teachers to maintain their classes (Carballo, 2010). The population in 1960 was around 5,000,000 and in 2000 it was 31,000,000 and growing 3%
