ASD Notes Asperger’s Disorder Students with Asperger’s may not be able to read the social cues in their environment. Watching a child during play can be helpful in diagnosing a child. A child with Asperger’s may focus on a part of an object, like a car’s wheel or door, rather than the object as a whole. Kid’s with Asperger’s usually have an average IQ or higher. Pervasive Developmental Disorder in DSM-IV Rett’s disorder is only found in girls. PDD NOS (not otherwise specified) is a category for those that do not exactly fit in PDD. Prevalence The prevalence of autism may have increased because of an expanded definition or biological causes. For example: Those that were identified as mentally retarded may be re-diagnosed with autism. Causation and Neurological Factors Those with fragile x syndrome have similar characteristics as those with autism. People with autism have smaller vermis in their brain. The vermis may
