Dustin Paluch Rhetorical Criticism Everyday, I know that all my friends (and myself) listen to music several times throughout the day. They listen to it on the way to class, while getting ready for a party, while studying, at funerals, weddings, and when they just want to be alone. When looking at music as a research method, I will be looking at how music influences listeners, how it comes to be a site for sharing meaning and values through memory, and how it works to produce new meanings from existing ones. These three points of focus are important because when people listen to songs they generally listen to a certain genre of music for different events in their life which also trigger memory. One main focus of my research would be focusing on how the performer gets their message across without turning away their intended audience. My rhetorical act of focus will be on the type of song, the message behind the song’s lyrics and how the audience reacts to each song.
