Associated Student of Saint Louis University Student Government Association Senate Bill (SB) – 181-11 April 27 th , 2011 Intent and Purpose: To amend the bylaws to restructure the Association’s diversity, inclusion and social justice efforts. Whereas, the ASSLU Student Government Association represents the entire student body, Whereas, the title of Diversity and Social Justice Vice President has a very broad interpretation, Whereas, the interpretation of the Diversity and Social Justice Vice President results in unfair expectations for the person hold- ing the position, Whereas, using only the Diversity and Social Justice Vice President as having a voice on matters related to social justice limits the student voice on matters of social justice, Whereas, the broad interpretation of the Diversity and Social Justice Vice President keeps the person holding the position from accomplishing his/her initiatives for Diversity and Inclusion matters at Saint Louis University, Whereas, there is a lack of student representation on the issues of mission, service, and justice, Whereas, there is a lack of focus and commitment from the ASSLU Student Government Association on the issues of mission, service and justice, Whereas, the ASSLU Student Government Association is expected to fulfill the tasks of attending Make a Difference Day, Showers of Service, and maintaining contact with the Doerr Center for Social Justice, Campus Ministry, and the Center for Service and Community Engagement, Whereas, there is a need to increase representation from Diversity and Inclusion related groups in legislative issues related to their organization, Whereas, the established Diversity Leadership Cabinet has been weak in advising the ASSLU Student Government Association in matters related to diversity and inclusion, Whereas, the Diversity and Social Justice Committee has lacked focus, and therefore, attendance, Therefore, let the Association’s Bylaws be amended such that: SECTION I. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
