Quote of the Week: “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.”    -E.E. Cummings Associated Students of Saint Louis University Student Government Association 38 th General Assembly Meeting No. 018-11 February 23 rd , 2011 Agenda I. Call to Order II. Opening Prayer III. Roll Call IV. Approval of the Minutes V. Approval of the Agenda VI. Open Forum a. African Palace- TWO DAYS AWAY!!!! b. Lampe- Facebook group supporting the athletic fee. Join it if you are interested and sup- port it. c. Rollins- Thanks everyone for supporting the black history month speaker d. Sondag- 6:30pm in Cook 232 Tomorrow e. Director for Housing and Res Life- His office is in the village apartments. He wants to re- main very available to students, come see if with any questions. f. Beckerer- College of Arts & Sciences dean search. It is in BSC 254 at 2pm. VII. Special Business a. Business Presentation by Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Bob Wood- ruff, Gary Whitworth, and David Heimburger Presentation on the FY2012 Budget i. If you would like to review the presentation, contact one of the above members. ii. The University has a fiscal year that goes July1st through June 30 th . Budgets get approved in December because they need to be able to announce the tuition for the next year by January. Revenue- Enrollment, tuition rats, financial aid. New spending, about 70 percent goes to people/students. New freshmen attraction for the 2012 year- 1625 students. Discount rate will be about 45.9% iii. Total net tuition will top 238 million. For a complete breakdown of wher the money will go, see power point presentation. iv. Salazar- Can the balance sheet be made available? *Yes v. Meiners- What other increase will be made for undergraduate enrollment? *There will be an increase of about 1-2% for the next few years. vi. Lampe- Do you ever envision our tuition going down? *We can cut expenses which means laying off programs or cutting employees, but otherwise tuition needs to continue to increase or growing of enrollment. There have also been talks about locking in a 4 year tuition rate for incoming freshmen. Does increas- ing enrollment help our tuition? *Yes, because then more students are able to keep the rate of increase down.

vii. Peddada- How much of the discount rate is need vs. merit based scholarships? *The majority of it is need based, but they are not sure of the exact numbers. viii. Beckerer- For programs that already exist and want more money, is that seen as new spending or old spending? *If it is new dollars going into an existing ac- count, then it counts as new spending. Is there any standardized of requesting money or is it automatic? *All new requests are standard, and go through a rigor- ous way of getting the new money. ix.
