Quote of the Week: “Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and  make a new ending.”    -Maria Robinson Associated Students of Saint Louis University Student Government Association 38 th General Assembly Meeting No. 014-11 January 19 th , 2011 Agenda I. Call to Order II. Opening Prayer III. Roll Call IV. Approval of the Minutes V. Approval of the Agenda VI. Open Forum a. VP-International- If a student does not hold international student status, but they are in- ternational, she is creating a bill to allow senators to be VP of International. b. Kponee- African Palace is in February c. VP Vandenburg- Sign committee forms d. VP Janczewski- sign up for Spring Break trips! VII. Special Business a. Assistant Vice President for Student Development, Ray Quirolgico Special Business Presentation i. Introduced himself and gave some background information on his education and personal life. 1. Salazar- what are your hobbies? Theatre, concerts, walks, he is a veget- arian 2. Black- What are some ideas he has? He wants to continue the aspect of having the CCC to be open to everyone. 3. Grillot- how do you plan to transform the housing and res life? There is a lot of data that is collected, but he would like to better interpret the data, such as who is staying on campus, what services are being provided, etc. b. State of the Association Speech SGA President Courtney Anvender First of all, I would like to welcome you all back as we begin a new semester. As college students, we benefit from the ability to divide our year into tidy semesters. At this point in the year, we can reflect upon last semester; we can celebrate our accomplishments and learn from our failures. With the beginning of a new semester comes the unique opportunity to truly start fresh both as individuals and as members of the Student Government Association as a whole. Now that we, as SGA, are preparing start the journey of this semester, I think it is fitting to consider our task in light of SLU’s Jesuit identity.

There is a charism in Ignatian spirituality that calls upon leaders to move forward, “In the sprit, from the heart, practically.” Although we did not have these specific words in mind last semester, I think that we were largely successful in embodying this style of leadership. In the spirit , we pursued initiatives that built upon the momentum from past SGA administrations. The statement of shared governance, the campaign to renovate Pius Library, and the Oath of Inclusion are all initiatives that reflected efforts of past administrations. Although these initiatives evolved significantly as they progressed with our administration, the spirit of previous senators and executive boards provided us with the invaluable wisdom to help us begin our work and ultimately be successful in doing it.
