Unformatted text preview: MATH 53 - THINGS TO KNOW FOR MIDTERM 2 LECTURE 1, SUMMER 2008 GSI: SANTIAGO CA NEZ Here is a list of things you should know for the second midterm. This list probably doesnt include every single detail you should know, but it comes pretty close. Hopefully most of what is here is already familiar to you and this list will just remind you of some things you might need to review. Feel free to ask about something which may be unclear. Happy studying! Derivatives Know, in basic examples (planes, cones, spheres, paraboloids, ellipsoids, hyperbolic paraboloids, cylinders), what graphs of functions look like: Know how to draw contour maps and level curves of functions of two variables, and level surfaces of functions of three variables. Know how to compute limits of continuous functions, and how to compute limits by con- verting to polar coordinates. In other cases, know how to show that limits dont exist....
