Professional Values and Ethics 2 Thriving organizations recognize the significance of building their foundation on ethical principles and values. Understanding the organization's objective allows employees to contribute to the organization's mission. An organization may expect employees and managers to adhere to a code of conduct or a system of moral values. These rules or standards govern the conduct and interactions within the company, with clients, and everyday life. Although each individual chooses values most important to him or her, his or her behavior directly affects the organization. Integrity, honesty and trustworthiness, passion and initiative are just a few out of many ethical and value qualities. It is no secret that an organization's success relies on the establishment of high values and ethical standards, hence the code of conduct and ethics. Everyone has their own way of explaining and defining values and ethics; however, they both aid individuals in shaping the foundation of his or her moral principles. For example, some may define values as beliefs and principles that shape ones behavior and define who we are as individuals, in return these beliefs and principles serve as the basis of our decision-making (NCSU). To others values are important and enduring beliefs or ideals shared by members within a culture and social group, who holds an emotional investment regarding what is right and what is wrong. With this it is safe to say that one of the major influences on behavior is values and this influence serves as the guidelines in any situation (The Business Dictionary). We face ethical dilemmas in every aspect of our lives: personal, educational, and
