Concert Review Paper (15%): Each student will attend a rock concert of his or her choice at some point during the semester and write a 3-5 page analytical essay based on the experience. You should draw comparisons with music and issues discussed in class (Genre? Instrumentation? Influences? Technology?), but also describe the concert experience in personal terms. A primary goal of this assignment is to encourage Vanderbilt students to venture off campus for a taste of Nashville’s remarkable live music scene, so please note the following parameters: no cover/tribute bands, no on-campus gigs, no concerts attended

Talk to your classmates and SA’s, pick up a copy of The Nashville Scene , or listen for announcements during class about upcoming events if you are unsure how to choose your concert. Some of my favorite venues in town include The Ryman Auditorium, Cannery Ballroom, Mercy Lounge, Exit/In, The Basement, 12 th & Porter, 3 rd & Lindsley, Family Wash, The Rutledge, Station Inn, The Five Spot, Douglas Corner, and Bluebird Café.
