Week 05 Discussion - Email Accounts Many companies provide their employees with an email account. These accounts have become a hot topic for litigation. Typically, these accounts are considered the property of the company and management has the right to obtain information from the accounts. Do you feel that companies should permit personal use of these accounts? Do you feel that the employee has some expectation of privacy with the company account? What are some steps that a company may take to control the use of employee email accounts? Explain. In my opinion, I do not think that companies should permit personal use of work emails. If companies were to allow personal use of these email accounts, it could tarnish the company’s name, depending on what the employee did. I feel that if you’re at work, you should be working. If you want to send personal emails, surf the internet, talk on the phone and listen to music, you should do it on your own time. The company is paying you to perform the duties and responsibilities that were outlined in your job description, and I am pretty sure that it did not included sending personal emails, talking on the phone, surfing the internet or listening to music....
