OUTLINE: Announcements: No office hours today, will announce replacements when possible CIOS: 61.4%. Target = 70% Keep an eye out for an email to try to set up a review session. This weekend? Early next week? Design of Experiments: Overview/explanation 2-Factor Design Simple equations Regression equations Example Design of Experiments, example: Design nanowires: - there aren’t good equations available to describe the processes you are using - potentially important variables in making nanowires (physical properties of the constructed REALLY matter): o pressure of the reaction vessel o temperature o concentration of dopants/contaminants o concentration of silicon o etc… - Time/expense associated with doing lots of tests for all of these parameters is HUGE - So if he wanted to get a good understanding of how his parameters affect the nanowires he created, it would cost $$$ - If he were to do repeated experiments, there would be some statistical variation in results Given these constraints (time/expense of experiments, statistical noise), how can we best
