Commonly known as RAM (random-access memory) the computer’s main memory is a  device that holds information: a. The memory is called  volatile  and is used only for temporary storage. Meaning  the contents are erased once the computer is turned off or the program  terminates.  i. RAM is organized in bits (binary digits) which are the smallest pieces of  memory and bytes which are 8 consecutive bits.
