Tanisha Billups Experiment 5 February 27, 2008  Rates of Chemical Reactions I: A Clock Reaction Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to calculate the effect of concentration on the rate of a  reaction and to calculate the order of each reactant while obtaining the rate law for the chemical  reaction. Procedure A: Preliminary Experiments 1. Dilute 5.0mL of 0.2M KI solution with 10.0mL of distilled water in a test tube. 2. Add 3 drops of starch and mix thoroughly 3. Add 5.0mL of 0.2M (NH 4 ) S 2 O 8.  4. Mix 5. Observe the color changes Procedure B: Kinetics Experiment 1. Prepare the following solutions ONE AT A TIME: a. Solution 1 b. Solution 2
