Tanisha Billups Experiment 7 March 19, 2008  Titration of Acids and Bases Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to become familiar with titration techniques and determine  the     amount of acid in an unknown.  Procedure: 1. Clean a 50mL buret with soap 2. Rinse thoroughly with tap water 3. Rinse with five 10mL portions of distilled water 4. Water should run freely without leaving any drops 5. Be sure the buret does not leak and the stop cock turns freely Procedure A: Standardization of NaOH Solution 1. Prepare about 400mL to 450mL of CO 2 -free water by boiling for 5min 2. Prepare another 400mL  of CO 2 -free water by boiling for 5min for part B 3. With the weighing bottle 3 samples of KHP (between 4g-6g) into 3 separate 250mL  Erlenmeyer flasks 4. Weigh to 4 sig figs 5. Do not weigh the flasks 6. Record the mass and label the flasks 7. Add 100mL of CO 2  free distilled water
