October 1, 2008 Objective of the Experiment:  The purpose of this experiment is to study the use of  chosen laboratory instruments and to use them to measure the lengths and masses of  selected objects.  Theory:  In this experiment, the importance of measurement was explored by using the  fundamental quantities. The fundamental quantities are mass, length, time,  temperature, electric current, amount of substance and luminosity. Three of the seven  fundamental quantities were explored: mass, length, and the amount of substance. A  balance was used to measure the mass of the block and cylinder. A meter stick was  used to measure the length. A vernier scale was used to measure the width. And, a  micrometer was used to measure diameter.  Method:  1.
