Lesson 5.1 Homework 1. When an 80-kg man climbs into a 1200-kg car, the springs of the car compresses vertically by 1.4 cm. The springs vibrate vertically when the car runs into a ditch. Find the frequency of this vertical vibration. 2. A 1.5-kg mass on a frictionless surface is attached to a horizontal spring with a force constant k = 200 N.m -1 . At t = 0, the mass is at x = 0.1 and it is given a velocity 2.0 ms -1 i. (i) Obtain the amplitude A, the angular frequency ϖ , and the phase angle δ . Write down the equation of the displacement x(t) of the mass. (ii) Find the period T of oscillation (iii) What is the maximum velocity and acceleration of the mass? (iv) Plot x(t) from t = 0 to t = T 3. A 500-g mass on a spring executes simple harmonic oscillation and its position functions is given by x(t) = 0.5 m cos(6 π t + π /6) (i) Obtain the amplitude A, the angular frequency ϖ and the phase angle δ for this oscillation. (ii)
