People with disabilities have a right to fair and equal wages, working hours and opportunities, and the benefits of being employed in the community. Individuals with disabilities need to be in customized or supported employment, rather than in sheltered and segregated settings. In the supported employment model, workers with disabilities are assisted throughout the employment process. A job mentor or coach may assist the individual in securing a position (job), training for the job, and maintain employment through individual supports and accommodations.
