OBJECTIVE While carrying out the experiment, measure the velocities of the glider before and after collision, then compare it to the change in momentum of the glider. Verify that momentum is conserved. 2. THEORETICAL BACKGROUND Momentum is a product of mass and velocity, = p mv Newton’s Law for linear momentum: The momentum of the system only changes if there are external forces acting on the system. The collision is elastic if the Kinetic Energy of the system does not change. The collision is inelastic when two elements stick and move with the same velocity after collision. 3.
