Statistics 101A Hmework one Due Monday October 25th Problem 1. The College of Letters and Science awarded me with a grant to examine the effect of blended instruction (technology combined with regular methods of teaching) on enhancing statistical thinking and statistical literacy. Statistical thinking was measured through questions that required the student to demonstrate their ability to analyze and synthesize information and apply their knowledge of statistics to answer real world questions. Statistical literacy was measured through open-ended questions that required the students to write their understanding and analysis of statistical concepts and methods. But, they were trained to follow the same teaching methodology. The control group met with the instructor three hours a week and attended section for one hour a week to get help with homework problems. The experimental group met with the instructor three hours a week and with TA two hours a week; one hour in section and one hour in the computer lab. Each week the students took two on-line quizzes to help them do their own learning. The quizzed also helped the instructor to monitor the students’
