JD Lester English 1102 Article Summary/ Critique “The Truth About College Majors” by Jessica Tomer is a resource for upcoming college freshmen to help them decide which major is right for them. It is not only her opinion about the importance of choosing a major and when to choose it, but it is the collaborated voices of advisors and directors of career services from many colleges around the country. Tomer talks about when to decide, how to decide, and how important it is to decide on the right major. Most of the article is based on the “undeclared” freshmen. Tomer starts out by quoting Craig Plummer, an independent college advisor based in southern New Hampshire. He breaks down the dilemma into two categories. (Tomer, 1) The labor-intensive majors, where starting off with a declared major is your best bet because if you don’t you will miss a lot of prerequisite courses. The other category is the undecided.
