Dowlin’s “I’m Glad We Have a Media Accessible President” she focuses on how our new president Barack Obama is much more sociable than our previous presidents, particularly George W. Bush. In her article she calls the president “The Great Communicator in Chief”. Though many people criticize the president for his “over exposure”, others believe that he is the most media accessible president ever. In this day in age with news channels and online communications, the author sees it as necessary for the president to go on the air more often. The main criticism people make of the president is the fact that he went on a day time T.V. show, “The View”. People argue that the president should be doing better things than gossiping. Barack Obama has said that “It is time to stop campaigning and start governing”. Is this true? Is he being a hypocrite? Some would say going on a day time T.V. show is campaigning. The author says that hypothetically this is what people want to hear, and this is the right thing to do. Realistically however, a politician can never stop campaigning, it is their main job to get reelected. The nature of politics is that everything you say and do can and will be used against you; especially in this day and age of 24/7 news cycles, youtube, and camera phones....
